DETOXIFICATION



Detoxification is appropriate for those currently abusing alcohol and/or drugs that need daily medical monitoring for the withdrawal process. Over a three-to-five day period, clients receive treatment that includes participation in psycho-educational groups on the physiology of withdrawal, relapse, recovery and Twelve Step process. Medication management, as well as psychiatric and psychosocial assessments and follow-up are also provided.

Matthew A. Torrington, M.D.,is a board certified Family Medicine physician with a specialty in Addiction Medicine. Having completed his fellowship at UCLA's Integrated Substance Abuse Programs, Dr. Torrington is also a Clinical Research physician. Dr. Torrington is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and by the American Academy of Pain Management. He is licensed to practice in the state of California and is involved in residential and outpatient treatment of substance abuse disorders in addition to his clinical research activities. Dr.Torrington has a clinical focus on the treatment of stimulant dependence, alcohol dependence, opiate dependence, and pain.



Dr. Torrington has dedicated his professional life to helping those suffering from substance dependence. Dr. Torrington is actively involved in clinical research, community outreach and clinical practice. Dr. Torrington is a clinical research physician with the Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) at UCLA. ISAP is one of the foremost substance abuse research groups in the world. Dr. Torrington has participated in numerous research studies and is actively working on multiple clinical trials. Dr. Torrington serves the community as a member of the End Dependence board of directors, and the End Dependence clinical advisory board, and by directly participating in the care of those without financial means. Dr. Torrington is also the medical director of the Common Ground Westside needle exchange program and serves on the Common Ground board of advisors. Dr. Torrington maintains a private practice specializing in patients with substance use disorders and pain. He utilizes a variety of novel and evidence based techniques to help his patients achieve their goals. Dr. Torrington embraces the patient centered care model and the individual combinations of biological, psychological, social, spiritual and nutritional changes needed to help the suffering.
